Dry Ice Rice

Arctic Dry Ice rice is guaranteed fresh, high density, premium quality and made to order.

Dry ice blasting, also known as dry ice cleaning, is an environmentally friendly cleaning and surface-preparation method that uses dry ice rice, typically 3mm in size. The rice is blasted at supersonic speeds much like sandblasting or power washing, only dry ice blasting is non-abrasive, non-conductive, non-toxic, and non-flammable.

As solid CO2 pellets are blasted at a surface material, they sublimate on impact flash freezing contaminants, lifting dirt and residue from the underlying substrate. Dry ice cleaning offers several advantages over other cleaning methods as it is chemical free, water free, and does not create secondary waste or damage.

Safety

Handling

Dry ice is an amazing medium but with a temperature of -109°F it’s cold enough to freeze skin cells and cause burn like injuries if not handled properly. Never allow dry ice to come in direct contact with skin. Always handle dry ice with protective gloves or a towel.

Ventilation

Dry ice does not melt like wet ice, it converts to carbon dioxide gas. If left in a confined space, the carbon dioxide gas will displace oxygen which may result in a suffocation hazard. If dry ice has been left in a confined space (such as a small room or closed vehicle) for more than 10 minutes, open the doors and windows before entering. Leave the area immediately if you experience shortness of breath or have difficulty breathing.

Storage

Never store dry ice in a container that is completely airtight. We recommend using Arctic Dry Ice containers. When dry ice sublimates to carbon dioxide gas, the gas pressure greatly expands. This expansion will cause an airtight container to expand and possibly explode, which may result in injury or possibly death.
