Arctic Dry Ice - Dry Ice Blocks and Slices in VT, NH and ME

Our dry ice blocks and slices provide long-lasting cooling for shipping frozen and temperature-sensitive products making them ideal for large shipments, long-distance deliveries, food production, medical specimen transport, and industrial cooling applications where consistent cold retention is a priority. These solid blocks of carbon dioxide sublimate the slowest allowing you to maintain freezing temperatures for extended periods of time. Unlike water, dry ice does not melt into a liquid state, instead it sublimates from a solid to a gas meaning your products not only stay colder, longer, they also remain dry.

Arctic Dry Ice blocks and slices are sold in two sizes (2”x5”x10” / 10”x10”x12”) and are guaranteed fresh, high density, premium quality and made to order.

Key Facts

  • Dry ice blocks and slices have a lower surface-area-to-volume ratio than pellets or rice, allowing them to sublimate more slowly. This makes them the preferred choice for long-duration cooling, cold chain shipping, and applications where extended temperature control is essential.
  • Dry ice blocks are widely used to ship frozen food, seafood, pharmaceuticals, laboratory samples, and other temperature-sensitive products. Their longer lifespan helps maintain frozen temperatures during transit without leaving behind water or moisture.
  • Dry ice blocks and slices are available in several sizes to match different cooling and shipping requirements. Whether you need compact slices for insulated shipping containers or larger blocks for extended refrigeration, choosing the right size helps maximize cooling efficiency and dry ice life.
  • Unlike traditional ice, dry ice changes directly from a solid into carbon dioxide gas through sublimation. Because it never melts into liquid water, dry ice blocks keep packages clean, dry, and free from moisture damage during storage and transportation.
  • Fresh dry ice blocks provide longer-lasting cooling and greater density than older material that has already begun to sublimate. Arctic Dry Ice manufactures blocks and slices to order, helping ensure maximum cooling performance and dependable results for shipping, storage, and industrial applications.

Safety

Handling

Dry ice is an amazing medium but with a temperature of -109°F it’s cold enough to freeze skin cells and cause burn like injuries if not handled properly. Never allow dry ice to come in direct contact with skin. Always handle dry ice with protective gloves or a towel.

Ventilation

Dry ice does not melt like wet ice, it converts to carbon dioxide gas. If left in a confined space, the carbon dioxide gas will displace oxygen which may result in a suffocation hazard. If dry ice has been left in a confined space (such as a small room or closed vehicle) for more than 10 minutes, open the doors and windows before entering. Leave the area immediately if you experience shortness of breath or have difficulty breathing.

Storage

Never store dry ice in a container that is completely airtight. We recommend using Arctic Dry Ice containers. When dry ice sublimates to carbon dioxide gas, the gas pressure greatly expands. This expansion will cause an airtight container to expand and possibly explode, which may result in injury or possibly death.
